10 tips to stay safe online!





Tip #1: Watch What You Post.

Learn fro the stars! Miley Cyrus and Vennessa Hudgens are just a few who have been victims of stupidity! Don't post pictures that you wouldn't want your parents to see. Pictures of you with a red cup in your hand may look like something that they're not. Pictures of you wearing less than a shirt are a definite no-no! once they are out on the world wide web, THERE'S NO TAKING THEM BACK!

Tip #2: Creepers- They Are Everywhere!

The websites you think are safe aren't really as safe as you think they are. You're "best" Facebook friend may really be a 56 year old creeeeeeper. Just because you have 17 mutual friends, doesn't mean that they are who they say they are. What ever you post those creepers will see it, so change you're privacy settings. The ones that seem the most overkill are actually the best. Make sure only your friends can see your posts and that only people you know are accepted as your friends.

Tip #3: Creepers Are CREEPY! (Hence the name creeper!)

If a weird person is messaging you STOP! Notify your parents or a trusted adult immediatley, and BLOCK THAT PERSON! They try to get inside your head and become friends with you. If you let it get that far, you're already in danger. Don't trust anyone on the internet, just to be safe.

Tip #4: Online Shopping- A Dangerous Sport

Make sure the websites are shop from aren't scams. Stay on name-brand websites. If it is an unknown website, they could be trying to take your identity. Just think of all the info they have when you buy a pair of shoes: your name, address, phone number, CREDIT CARD NUMBER! They pretty much know everything about you without even meeting you! scary......

Tip #5: Read the Fine Print

Those little annoying words at the bottom of a page are actually pretty important. What you don't read can actually hurt you in the end. I know that they take forever to read, but it may end up saving you. You don't want to pay any hidden fees or have the wrong people reading your information.

Tip #6: Password Protect!

Your dog's name, your birthday, or your favorite color are not a good choice for passwords. If someone accesses your password, they can gain access to all of your accounts! Your Facebook can be hacked and that perfect reputation of yours? Out the window. Make passwords that use CaPiTaLs and #'s and &*%$*@. Finally, DON'T TELL YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE! That includes your closet friends, even your parents.

Tip #7: Everyone can see what you put out there!

If you google yourself, all of your accomplishments may pop up, but those silly little pictures of you being silly may also appear. What you put on the internet will stay there forever! If you don't want someone seeing it, DON'T PUT IT ON THE INTERNET! As you get older, a school you may want to get into or an employeer could Google you, and those funny pictures from 7th grade could ruin your chances.

Tip #8: Email Scams

You email to stay in touch with friends and family, but others email to scam you. They want you to fall for the trap so they can obtain informatio like your credit card number or address. If you don't know where it came from, DON'T OPEN OR ANSWER IT! No sick child will be saved by your email forwards.

Tip #9: Guard your Laptop

Always lock your laptop with a password. Don't leave it out in the open for anyone to grab. Treat your laptop like CASH! Believe it or not creepers want to get to your laptop. A post-it with your password isn't the greates idea. Keep your computer safe so you can stay safe.

Tip #10: Think, Stop, Act

Every tip is easy enough to follow if you use common sense. Use common sense. If something feels wrong, DON'T DO IT! Don't add strangers, don't give out information, and watch what you post. If you have a brain, you can be safe online.
